Rawlings is maybe the most well-known of all baseball glove makers, and has been making their gloves for over eighty years.Rawlings makes both top of the line baseball gloves as well as cheap, low end Rawlings gloves that are made in the East.
The most costly glove by rawlings is the "design your own" custom glove the company sells for almost $400.
Players can select from eight different series of baseball gloves featuring more than sixty models of gloves from Rawlings.More pro baseball players in the game today use Rawlings' Heart of the Hide Gloves than any other glove in the market. Rawlings was set up in 1887 when George and Alfred Rawlings opened a retail sporting products store in St Louis.
In 1920, Rawlings introduced the Bill Doak glove that the company asserts became the prototype for all-purpose baseball gloves of the future. The Rawlings gold glove award was established in 1957 to recognize fielding excellence.
In 1971 a new Rawlings baseball glove, named "Fastback" was introduced, with the major new feature being a closed back design.
Rawlings went public in 1994 and is now owned by K2 sports. Just over 50 years back, a Rawlings sales executive named Elmer Blasco made the observation that well over 1/2 the pros in the game wore a Rawlings glove. It did not take him long to realize that Rawlings should create an award that recognized defensive excellence.
So the classic Rawlings Gold Glove Award was born. For the opening award design, Blasco worked with the Brown Shoe Company in St Louis. They supplied him with gold bronzed leather that was employed to make ladies' formal slippers. Rawlings made the glove and joined it to a walnut base to make the first Rawlings Gold Glove Award. The look of the award did not change much over the following fifty years. To honor the fiftieth Anniversary of the Rawlings Gold Glove Award in 2007, the award received an up to date look. Galvanized by the look of a luxury auto, the new award features a burled cherry wood base with a lacquered black piano wood trim. In addition, a piece of the award base is covered with Rawlings Heart of the Hide leather embroidered with the Rawlings Patch trademark.
The updated pro award is 12" deep x 17" wide x two " tall. If the award recipient is a Rawlings backed player, they are going to receive a gold version of their game day model on their award. Other winners will get a universal gold Rawlings model. While the look of the award has modified over the course of fifty years, one thing stays the same : defense remains the center of the game and the center of the Rawlings brand.
Their Pro patterns and Pro grade laces give it the Pro quality features mixed with the Pro soft leather creates that flexible, broken-in feel that makes it game prepared. The Rawlings Glove comes in many kinds including : Infield / Outfield, Catcher and First Base. The Infield / Outfield glove : This Glove model features the Basket Web pattern, which was the 1st flexible web that made the glove simpler to squish. With its pattern and closed web, it makes it a great glove for pitchers or infielders or outfielders. The Catchers mitt : This Gold Glove Catcher's Mitt features the Pro-H pattern, which was built to make a deeper pocket that may simply scoop a baseball. With its 33" pattern this glove is ideal for all baseball back catchers. The 1st Base glove : This Gold Glove first Base model features the Single Post double bar web, giving it a stretchable web and forms a snug secure pocket which permits the ball to paste and not bounce.
